On June 5, 2018 (World Environment Day), SUT announced the reduction of plastic use in all areas, “SUT Say No Plastic”. Six measures have been implemented with stores in Suranaree University of Technology (SUT):
- No plastic bag from the convenience stores except for carrying hot food.
- No selling drinking water with cap seal.
- No giving plastic spoon, plastic fork and plastic tube automatically, but let customers take them by themselves
- No using foam box and clear plastic box. (Only use package from bagasse and paper)
- Reduce the use of straw with plastic wrap, if necessary, use straw with paper wrap instead
- Giving discount in case of use private glass of water and rice box to buy food and drink.
Waste reduction by ECOLIFE APPLICATION or Point accumulation by QR Code when the buyer refuses to accept four types disposable plastic of plastic bags, plastic straw, plastic spoon – fork and plastic glass. The application can display the amount of plastic waste reduction at the university. The use of this application stimulates and encourages the reduction of plastic waste in the university. Read more
On promoting the use of the bicycle in campus to reduce air pollution and to reduce the emission of greenhouse gas as well as to minimize the transportation fuel cost, the network of bicycle lanes covering the entire area has been constructed. Relating facilities and securities are also provided to motivate the students and staffs to use more of bicycles as their means of transportation. In addition, there is also facilities of pedestrian covered walkway linking between lecture buildings and students dormitories to motivate the more use of pedestrian. Read more
The university has its own three water production systems and distributes this water through the pipe network for consumption within the campus. The water supply plant sourced from raw water from all reservoirs, capacity 9,600 cu.m./day, producing 1,256,080 cu.m./year Read more
In the water supply production, there will be water sediments which are those discharged from the settling tank (thick water sediments) and those resulted from sand wash (thin water sediments). The water sediments, occurred during the two processes, amount to 13 percents of the raw water fed into the supply water production. Read more
The university has a specific pipe network system to collect wastewater from residential, office, and academic zones to its own water recycling plant. These wastewater flows by the gravity and enter into the wastewater recycling plant which is located at the lowest ground level of the campus area as shown in the Figure. Currently the plant can recycle 393,442 cubic meter per year. Read more
The university has tried to survey for groundwater within the campus area since the surface water supply nearby the campus is deficient. In this region of Thailand, the groundwater is usually contaminated by the rock salt formation. Read more
The university supports the waste separation scheme and provides recycle bins located at office buildings and 6 convenient stores. They are both indoor and outdoor recycle garbage bins. Staffs and students are educated to be aware of waste recycling and properly classify their waste before throwing away.
In order to efficiently manage recycle wastes and general wastes in the campus. SUT has founded the Recycle Vendor and the Environmental Fund. The Recycle Vendor is responsible for purchasing all recycle wastes which are separated at the bins and sorted out from the general wastes and even anyone who has some. Read more
It is based on Mechanical Biological Treatment, MBT or a technology that transforms waste to organic fertilizer and waste fuel. It consist of waste sorting belt system, size reduction shredding, composting system and sieving machine to sort out organic fertilizer and plastic. Read more
The Infectious Waste Management Power Plant was constructed to eliminate all infectious wastes from the university’s hospital. The treatment capacity of the plant is about 3,000 kg. of infectious waste per day everyday. This power plant uses the gasification technology with a fixed-bed downdraft gasification type. Read more
