The prototype of small biomass power plant for the community, Suranaree University of Technology, has the capacity of 100 kW. It is a small biomass power plant that can be used with domestic biomass fuel and is suitable for every area and community in Thailand. It uses Biomass Gasification of Open Top Downdraft Gasification type by feeding fuel from the top based on air volume controlled combustion, which is incomplete. The solid bio fuel will be transformed into gas which consists of Carbon monoxide (CO) 18-22%, Hydrogen (H2) 18-20% and Methane (CH4) 1-2% and has the average heat value of 4.5-5.5 mega Jules per cubic meter. It can be used as an alternative to petroleum or natural gas. Specifically, the produced fuel once cleaned (from dust/ tar) and reduced the temperature will be used as fuel for internal combustion engine, which is used to generate electricity.
